Water Bar at BLUE – Woolloomooloo, Bar Review
Posted on April 25, 2011 in Featured, Modern Australian by Eating in Sydney.
While most people head to noisy bars and pubs on a Friday night after work, we were looking for a quiet place for the two of us, where could enjoy some drinks and light finger food. Normally it’s very difficult to find a place that serves alcohol, yet remains on the quiet side. Add to that the requirements of being close to the Sydney CBD and having a nice selection of drinks to choose from and you’ve got one hell of a challenge.
Never fear, though, as Water Bar at BLUE is here!
Water Bar (not to be mistaken with the Watershed Bar in Darling Harbour) is inside BLUE Sydney, which is a boutique hotel owned by Taj Hotels Resorts & Palaces. Located on the wharf at Woolloomooloo this hotel looks just like any other maritime warehouse building. It’s when you step inside into the Water Bar, though, that you are truly blown away by the sight! It’s an absolutely incredible mix of old vs new, darkness vs dazzling lights and a myriad of textures and furnishings that create the most amazing ambience.
In terms of alcohol, the bar has pretty much anything you could wish for, at prices that are just a tad above average, though, well suited for a classy place like this. There are wines, beers, spirits and some really awesome cocktails!
As I mentioned earlier, the best things about this bar is that it remains quiet, which means you can actually talk to your friends without having to yell at the top of your voice. It’s also very open and spacious which again is so welcoming when you consider most bars.
Water Bar at BLUE used to only offer a handful of options when it came to food, but during my last visit, I’ve noticed that the list has grown significantly. Thankfully the quality of the dishes have remained at a high. Something to note is that some of the dishes have a slightly Indian flavour to it, which makes sense considering the hotel groups Indian heritage. My tip, try the Prawn Dumplings as well as the Gyozas (wow!).
Before I finish this review, I want to add a note about the service at Water Bar at BLUE. It is one word, remarkable! The service staff are unbelievably attentive, polite, friendly and just like everything else, classy.
Water Bar at BLUE… I can’t wait to go back again, and again, and again…

Looks good! BTW, gorgeous design, love it! ;)
Thanks Christof :)
I bought vouchers from groupon for high tea, $59 for 2, valued at $139. I haver never been so dissappinted in my life, the 3 tiered platters had hardly enough food to feed one person nevervmind 2! I resent paying $59, i would be furious if i had payed $139!! I am no stranger to high teas and have been to several in top sydney hotels, which usually includes sandwiches and pastries, this platter was mini sized or bite sized peices of something you would expect if trying samples. My daughter whom i had bought it for and i had to ,go out afterwards and get a feed, not to mention we had been looking forward to it for months and had travelled from wollongong!!!
