Gumshara Ramen – Sydney CBD, Japanese Restaurant Review

Gumshara Ramen

So if you talk to any one of my friends, they’ll tell you that I have a strange fascination with all things Italian. Mostly food, though it does extend beyond that! Now I’ve always told them that I must have been Italian in my past life, but going by the sheer number of Japanese restaurants I’ve frequented, I’m beginning to think that perhaps I was Japanese instead! I mean, come on, how do you decide between delicious pasta, pizza, gelato and equally delicious sushi, sashimi and ramen? Impossible I tell you!

Anyway, back to the actual review… Gumshara, which is a favourite amongst the foodie community, has been one of my go-to places for ramen. In fact, I’d go as far as to say it’s my second (equal) favourite ramen restaurant in Sydney; on par with Ippudo yet still behind my beloved Ryo’s Noodles.

Gumshara Ramen

Hakata Ramen Noodle – $10.50

Gumshara has a number of ramen dishes to choose from – my favourite being the Hakata Ramen Noodle – and what’s great is that you not only get to choose between thick or thin noodles, but you also get to choose the consistency of the soup itself (light, medium or thick). This makes it ideal for not just the die-hard ramen lovers who demand a super-rich flavour punch, but also those that enjoy a lighter touch. Add to this the ability to further customise your order with a myriad of additions such as eggs and extra pork chops to name a few, Gumshara really is the ideal restaurant to get your ramen fix! Especially if you don’t want to drive over the bridge and wait 30mins in the queue to get into Ryo’s Noodles; although I highly recommend you try it at least once!

Now I should also mention that Gumshara is located inside the super-busy, and equally noisy, ‘Eating World’ food court located in Chinatown in Sydney’s CBD. So don’t expect a quiet romantic dinner with your loved one. Unless your true love is a bowl of hot, delicious ramen noodles, in which case enjoy!
